Francis Silveria

Forward (1994-1999)
International

A deadly finisher, ‘Pocket’ – as he was affectionately called – almost seemed to take sadistic pleasure in embarrassing goalkeepers. Against Churchill Brothers, he left Ghanaian goalkeeper Edward Ansah red-faced by scoring from almost the halfway mark. Francis Silveira could get the better of the best of defenders and was deadliest inside the box with his body feints and cold-blooded finishing. He formed one of the deadliest striking partnerships for Dempo with Marcus Carvalho which contributed to many a triumph. He finished as the second highest goal-scorer behind Mohun Bagan’s Uzbekistani recruit Igor Shkvirin during the National Football League in 1999-2000 and represented the country from 1993 – the FIFA World Cup Asia group qualifiers in Lebanon – till the Millennium Cup in 2001.
