David D’Souza
Defender (1976-1977, 1982-1992)
In his pomp, David D’Souza stood like a veritable rock in the Dempo defence and hardly ever let their rivals get a sniff of his citadel. Starting his career with Dempo, David quit the club after just a year for short spells at MPT and Vasco but returned ‘home’ in 1982 for an uninterrupted decade-long stint. He had good technique and speed, making it difficult for rival strikers to get past him. In the 1986 Rovers Cup final, D’Souza, playing alongside Mahesh Lotlikar in central defence, completely shut out Mohun Bagan and helped Dempo coast to a 2-0 win.
