Rovers Cup 1980

Ashok ‘Babu’ Arolkar captained Dempo to its third title at the Cooperage after Dionisio Trindade’s brace flattened high-flying JCT Mills 2-0. The scoreline would have looked more flattering if Trindade’s close range attempt had not missed the target by a whisker or if Joseph Machado’s blinder not ricocheted off the goalpost. The defence, marshaled by Nicholas Pereira and Mahesh Lotlikar, kept India striker Inder Singh at bay. Dempo famously did not concede a goal in the tournament.
