Dempo Sports Club Juniors got off to a flying start in the Geno-GFA 1st Division League following their easy 2-0 win over Goa Velha Sports Club at Ella ground.

Sunil Ajgaoncar was the chief guest at Ella ground.

Playing at their fortress, Dempo SC Juniors started the game in an earnest way and played a flawless game with Larryl Mascarenhas commanding the midfield. Goa Velha SC played more on the back foot knowing that playing a pressing game would cost them late in the game.

Dempo SC Juniors were unlucky in the opening minutes of the game when Larryl set Rajat from the middle and the latter’s first time shot which beat the goalkeeper came off the post.

However, the goal was bound to come as Dempo SC played more of possession play and waited to attack trying to find the break.

Finally at the half-hour mark, Dempo SC juniors broke the deadlock when Goa Velha SC keeper saved Rajat Pawar’s goal bound shot, only to see it travel to Ariston Costa, who was lurking infront of the goal and the lad pushed the ball past the helpless keeper to make it 1-0.

Goa Velha didn’t have much chances as the first half score remained 1-0 in favour of Dempo SC juniors.

In the second half, Goa Velha came back strongly but they just couldn’t break the strong Dempo SC defence line. But their performance was much better than the first half. However, they conceded the second when Goa Velha defender brought down Ariston in the box and the referee made no hesitation to point towards the spot.

Larryl stepped over and coolly converted the penalty to make it 2-0. The final time score remained 2-0.

Kadhambari Bhagwat gave away the Geno man of the match award to Dempo SC Jrs’ Larryl Mascarenhas.
