Dempo Sports Club scored a solitary goal win over Sporting Clube de Goa in the All India Football Federation U-13 Hero Sub Junior League played at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Panjim, on Thursday.
A positive start to the campaign for Dempo SC as coach Pradip Chopdekar had to rebuilt the entire team following the TW3 Test which denied seven players from playing in the league finding them ineligible to play.
The Young Eagles dominated early proceeding and missed missed two chances in the first half. First – Hansel Oliveira’s brilliant strike from the goal area was saved by the Sporting custodian after Hansel was fed with a cross from the wing from Leethan Silveira.
It was Hansel once again, who was denied for the second time in the evening after he made a fine solo run breaking the Sporting Clube’s midfield but only to see his effort straight at the keeper. With the scores even, the teams were on level terms for the second session. Nothing changed for Dempo SC in the second half. They continued to dominate the play but failed to score. First Nathan Coutinho set Brandon Pereira in front but the latter failed to capitalise on his chance. Minutes later, it was Nathan who missed another chance when couldn’t connect to Leethan’s cross.
After much probing, Dempo SC finally broke the deadlock at the hour mark when Leethan Silviera played a through pass to Rabi Pun and the striker made no mistake to round it past the Sporting Clube de Goa keeper.
In the last final minutes of the game, Seagmond Rebello tried to double the lead but his effort was brilliantly saved by Sporting goalkeeper.
