This is the first time that a Goan team won the Bordoloi Shield and also the first time a team from outside the east and north of India emerged champions. Led by Dionisio Trindade, Dempo proved a goal too good for Mohammedan Sporting after Prakash Naik, voted player of the tournament, scored a second-half winner. Dempo had lost in the final to Assam Police (0-2) the previous year.
